Quick Switcheroo

This was a quick and easy update to our hallway.  Especially easy for me as I "supervised" rather than actually doing any of the dirty work.

Before - builder basic boob light!  (and a nice closeup look at the popcorn ceiling!)

After - the soon to be in every hallway in America, Ikea Alang!

A Look at the Nook

First up, Ikea trip was a huge success.  I'm currently fighting with some flat pack furniture.  Updates to follow, if I don't get lost in a sea of allen keys first!

More importantly, a look at the nook!

This is how it looked when we viewed the house.  Hmmm, floral wallpaper, pelmet, chandelier.

And this is how it looks now.

A much cleaner look, with a big old mixture of old and new.  The chairs were a vintage Craigslist find and the table is from JCPenney.

The thrift store bread print looks a million times better in its new frame.

The view from the hallway.

We still need to add new window treatments in place of the old plastic blinds.  I'm having complete analysis paralysis when trying to pick the fabric.  I feel like it needs to be a print.  Or maybe a solid.  Or textured.  What about a burlap?  Oh good grief!

Fall Photos

Autumn is officially here!  It's completely dark when I leave work, I can actually walk outside at lunch time without breaking into a sweat and football rules the remote.

Unfortunately, it also means I can only take pics at the weekend.  Photos with natural light = :-)  Photos with artificial light = :-(  And who wants to read a post with no fun pictures (apart from this one, obviously!).

I suppose I could get up before work and take a few snaps but, lets face it, that's never going to happen!  The snooze button calls to me!

I have a shed load of updates to share - most of the light fixtures we inherited from the previous owners have finally bitten the dust, the kitchen is almost finished, and I've thrifted a few more pieces of fab furniture.

I promise I will be snap happy this weekend (in between a long awaited trip to IIIIIKKKKKKKEEEEEAAAAA!!!).

Soapy

I don't think I've ever been this excited about soap!

But I managed to pick up these limited edition Method Soaps at Target.  Adding a little Orla Kiely style to our sink.  Love it!

Master coming together

I couldn't resist a close up look at my favourite new dresser.

With my favourite little yellow lamp, favourite knitted pouf, and favourite fuzzy felt containers.

These fuzzy little felt treats were from the dollar section in Target.

And this small ombre bowl was (surprise surprise) a thrift store find.

One more time for those at the back.

Bumper year!

It wouldn't be a weekend without at least one trip to a thrift store or flea mall.  So I set the SatNav and hot footed it to Gardendale Flea Mall.  I hadn't been there in a few months, and they had some goooood stuff this time around.  I was specifically looking for furniture, and I wasn't disappointed.

The first thing I spied was this dresser.  I ripped the price tag off quicker than lightning so no one else could steal my the dresser.  It came with a mirror too, but I couldn't squeeze that in - a good excuse to pop back this weekend to pick it up.  And maybe have another quick look round :-)

Next up was this sweet shelving unit.  It was piled high with junk and fabric, but I know amazingness when I see it.

I also snapped up these 2 pictures

There was also a vintage orange chair that nearly made the cut.  I might buy it if it's still there this weekend.  Watch this space!

Starburst - on the cheap

Pinterest to the rescue!

I've been searching for a starburst mirror for above the sofa in the living room.  Those things are expensive!!  Even at my old favourite Homegoods they are at least $70 each.

So when I spied a diy starburst pin, I following the link and found the answer at JandJ Home.

I made a quick trip to Home Depot for the shims, and Michaels for the circular flower arranging bases.

I laid the shims out to get a rough idea of how I wanted the final product to look.

Then glued and glued and glued some more (and squashed it with some heavy books overnight).

The mirror was a bargain buy from Hobby Lobby.  I originally bought a 12" mirror, but it looked too big, so I went for the 10"

And here is my diy startburst mirror, made for under $15.  Bargain!  Thank you Pinterest!
